The newest addition to our family is a mutt from Kentucky.
Copper has been unlucky until now. He was in the shelter in Kentucky for 2 months without a single inquiry for adoption. He has a bum leg and is recovering from some dermatitis and he has a little spot of something on his nose. He was put on the euthanasia list the week before I called about him.
But like the flip of a coin, his luck has turned. He's now been with us for about a week and he has really blossomed in his new home. He is happy, loving, energetic, curious, patient, and tolerant. He wants to play with everyone and everything. He loves burrowing in the snow and digging and running. He opens his mouth when he runs and in our minds it looks very clearly like a big grin. He enjoys a good munch on a piece of kindling (we're wondering if he's part beaver.) We're learning how to talk to him. He's learning how to talk to us.
He made it home- through the efforts of dozens of volunteers and one patient mother and father, all the way from Kentucky through Ithaca to NH, land of freedom and sticks and holes yet to be dug. |
